Practice
practice routine
how a session actually goes, so i stop wasting credits on warm-up charts i'm too cold to play.
at home (most days, 30–45 min)#
- warm-up (5 min): stretch, then 2–3 easy charts on ribbon or the washer. nothing above lv 12
- focus block (20 min): one pattern type from patterns. same 3–4 charts on repeat. don't chase scores, chase clean execution
- reading block (10 min): chart previews on sdvx.in for whatever's on the grind list. no controller, just eyes
- cool-down: one fun chart. no tracking
home practice is for reading and muscle memory. timing gets fixed at the arcade.
at the arcade (2–3 hours)#
game order#
i always go sdvx → chuni → maimai, because:
- sdvx is the least physical, good warm-up for eyes and wrists
- chuni is the most wrist-heavy, do it while fresh
- maimai is the longest session, and the shoulders are warm by then
per game#
| step | what | credits |
|---|---|---|
| warm-up | 3 charts ~2 levels below my comfort zone | 1 |
| grind | charts from the grind list, one target per credit | 2–4 |
| new stuff | new songs this version, sight-read | 1 |
| fun | whatever. favourites. no pressure | 1 |
rules#
- log every score in kiroku right after the credit, while i still remember what went wrong
- one note per chart: "missed the slide at the drop," "early on the jacks." written in kiroku's notes field
- if i fail the same section 3 times in a row, stop playing that chart this session. i'm reinforcing the mistake
- take a break every hour. water, snack, go outside for 5 minutes
review (after the session)#
- check kiroku's session view: credits, pbs, what moved rating
- update goals if something got cleared
- watch a handcam for the chart that destroyed me
the weekly shape#
| day | what |
|---|---|
| mon–thu | home practice, 30 min |
| fri | arcade (the big one, after 10pm) |
| sat | rest, or the dungeon if the drive is worth it |
| sun | rest |
this is aspirational. reality varies.
